Louisville Young Democrats exists to cultivate an environment for young people to turn new ideas into action and bring new energy for a better Louisville. Founded in 2015, we are the largest partisan, youth-led political organization in Jefferson County. Our membership reflects the broad diversity of our community and the Democratic Party.
What We Do
- LYD hosts in-person and virtual events around the city. These range from rallies to educational panels with prominent progressive leaders.
- LYD highlights important issues to young voters. As the next generation of progressive leaders, it's important we all know what's happening in our communities and how to take action.
- LYD coordinates with other Democratic groups across Kentucky to build a more diverse and equitable state. We co-host events and support the various initiatives of these organizations.

LYD is committed to reforming the current criminal justice system and supporting policies that end mass incarceration. This includes ending the cash bail system.

LYD supports the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana and supports the equitable inclusion of marginalized communities that have been affected by these policies in profits from this industry.
Combat the Climate Crisis and Pursue Environmental Justice
LYD supports major investments in clean water, clean air, and renewable energy for all people, especially those in disenfranchised and marginalized communities.
Guarantee Safe Housing for Every American
LYD believes housing is a human right. LYD supports policies that protect tenants’ rights and eviction prevention. LYD supports programs that promote home ownership and dismantle the socioeconomic effects of gentrification and redlining. LYD supports policies that prevent the displacement and criminalization of the unhoused population.
Secure Universal Healthcare
LYD believes physical and mental healthcare is a human right. LYD supports access to reproductive healthcare for all people. LYD supports policies that reduce maternal mortality rates, especially among black women and other people of color.
